Around fifty vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Officers report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then located numerous other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state initial examinations show the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; authorities are currently not informed of any harm in association with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were working "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for tips.
An important official commented the incident rendered him stunned and had to be solved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he stated on online, recalling the killing of nine victims by a assailant focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
